Moving abroad

Are you planning on moving abroad from Leidschendam-Voorburg? Or do you expect to stay abroad for at least 8 months? Then please notify the municipality at least 5 days before your departure date. If all of the residents at your current home address will be moving as well, then you can report your move online. If one or more people will be staying behind, then everyone who will be moving must come to the Service Centre in person to report the move. That also applies to any minor children. You can make an appointment to report your move.

What you need to know

You can only report a move on behalf of your partner if you are married or have a registered partnership. If not, then your partner must report their move in person.

Documentation

Sometimes you need proof that you have deregistered from your municipality in the Netherlands, for example if you will be living abroad.

  • The municipality will not automatically send you a proof of deregistration.
  • The certificate of deregistration shows your personal data and the date of deregistration.

This is called an RNI Extract (Non-residents Records Database). You can make an appointment to request the extract at one of the 19 RNI locations (Non-residents Records Database). The nearest RNI location is in The Hague. For more information, see: The Hague: Requesting an RNI extractexterne-link-icoon.

Netherlands Caribbean

If you plan on moving to Aruba, Curaçao, St Maarten, Bonaire, St Eustatius or Saba, then you always need a proof of deregistration. When you report your move, you will receive a free certificate of deregistration sent via e-mail.

Statement

  • If you are moving abroad and plan on taking your household belongings with you, but you are still registered in the Netherlands, then you must request an Intended Departure Statement for Customs purposes.
